Born in Norfolk in 1969, Lisa studied at Norwich School of Art, demonstrating, at that time, a particular interest in textiles. She spent a decade working as a journalist in London before moving to Cornwall in 2003 and returning to painting, inspired by the Cornish landscape. She enjoys nothing better than tramping the countryside, camera or sketch book in hand, and has walked the entire length of Cornwall’s coast path, feeding her passion for painting seascapes and the county’s numerous fishing villages. The wild landscapes of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor, and the mountains of North Wales, are other sources of endless inspiration, in particular observing the changes in the natural world across different weather patterns and seasons. Working across all media, but particularly mixed media and watercolour, she often incorporates fragments of maps, photographs and documents related to the location, heightening the sense of place in her paintings. She then works into the collage with media including watercolour, acrylics and oil pastels, using a variety of mark-making techniques and implements. She is happiest expressing herself in a fast, loose style that veers towards abstraction and captures the immediacy of her surroundings.
