Sarah Chalmers, artist

Being a painter is a gift and a curse, it’s been like that all my life. When it doesn’t work you go to pieces when it does come, it can be sublime. I have to travel through the landscape, constantly in search for the silent voice of the spirit of place. I draw with watercolour, to see if I can capture a fleeting feeling of the essence and identity of the land I stand on. Sometimes I get there, sometimes I don’t. I often feel I can’t choose, it chooses me.
